Cycling with a Cause

Join us from September 29 - October 9, 2016 as we cycle on three stunningly beautiful Greek islands - Lesvos, Chios, and Samos and raise funds to help refugees.  As a rider, you will have a choice to raise funds for any or all designated organizations registered with the ride who are helping refugees gain hope and dignity.  Our goal is to help participating organizations and individuals raise $250,000 (USD) on behalf of refugees by December 31, 2016.  Donate here.

Background

Riding for Refugees

In early 2015, the refugee push out of Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan via Turkey intensified and within a year, over a million refugees entered Europe via Greece - primarily by making the narrow sea crossing between Turkey and the Greek islands of Lesvos, Chios, and Samos.  Most of these refugees have moved on and the flow has nearly abated after Turkey and the European Union agreed in March 2016 to return most refugees making the crossing to Turkey.  Local Greeks valiantly assisted many refugees - 42% were women and children.  We wish to honor these Greeks, promote tourism on the islands, and raise funds for projects that help restore hope and dignity for refugees around the world.  Register for Ride for Refugees 2016 and pay here.

More than a Ride

The 375 kilometers of cycling are spread out over six cycling days, with several non-cycling days interspersed to allow for ample participation in local activities - with local municipalities, with local people assisting refugees, and with refugees in camps still operating on the islands.  We welcome riders and non-riders - all will have fun and fulfilling days riding, learning, honoring, and serving others.  The route has been chosen for its significance and spectacular scenery.  The Ride for Refugees 2016 is organized by FaithQuest in partnership with VisionQuest.  For over 25 years, they have successfully operated cause oriented athletic challenge events around the world.  Register for the Ride for Refugees 2016 and pay here
